Foods & Drinks to Avoid for a Healthy Mouth

While some food may seem harmless, if you eat too many and the constant exposure to sugar can be harmful to your teeth. Here are 6 different foods and drinks that should be cautiously consumed.

  1. Hard Candies: Constant exposure to sugar and the hardness of the candy could cause a dental emergency such as a broken or chipped tooth. Alternative is sugarless gum
  2. Ice: Chewing on ice can also leave you vulnerable to a dental emergency such as a broken or chipped tooth.
  3. Citrus: Acidic food can weaken enamel, making teeth more susceptible to decay. Be sure limit exposure.
  4. Coffee & Tea: Because people often add sugar to coffee and tea, this beverage should also be limited. Frequent drinking may also stain your teeth, and caffeinated coffee and tea can have the potential to cause dry mouth.
  5. Sticky Foods: They have constant contact with your enamel when they get stuck in the grooves of the teeth, so be sure to rinse with water after consuming.
  6. Crunchy Foods: These types of food tend to be filled with starch, which often gets stuck in the grooves of teeth as well. Rinsing with water and good oral hygiene can help remove all these food particles.
